Seeding for the UEFA-Intertoto Cup
Number of teams that every country could admit to UIC was determined by
UEFA Ranking (1991/92-1995/96).

Seeding for the Champions' League
To the Champions' League UEFA allows additively top 8 runners-up by
UEFA Ranking (1993/94-1997/98).
Teams are divided into 4 pots:
- First (freed from the preliminaries, countries ranked 1-7 and the defender):
Real Madrid, Juventus Torino, FC Kaiserslautern, FC Barcelona, RC Lens, Ajax
Amsterdam, Arsenal London, FC Porto.
- Second (seeded in the qualifying round, countries ranked 8-15 and 1-8
runners-up): Inter Milano, Bayern Munchen, Athletic Bilbao, FC Metz, PSV
Eindhoven, Manchester United, Benfica Lisboa, Olympiakos Pireas, Panathinaikos,
Sparta Praha, Rosenborg BK, Sturm Graz, Spartak Moskva, Croatia Zagreb,
Galatasaray, Brondby.
- Third (seeded in the preliminary round, countries ranked 16-31):
Grasshopper-Club Zurich, Dinamo Kyiv, LKS-Ptak Lodz, Ujpest Budapest,
Club Brugge, FC Kosice, Steaua Bucuresti, Halmstads BK, Dinamo Tbilisi, Anorthosis
Famagusta, Celtic Glasgow, Beitar Jerusalem, Maribor Teatanic, Dinamo Minsk, IBV
Vestmannaeyjar, HJK Helsinki.
- Fourth (unseeded in the preliminary round, countries ranked 32-47):
Skonto Riga, Litex Lovetch, Sileks Kratovo, Kareda Siauliai, Obilic Beograd,
Zimbru, Flora Tallinn, FK Erevan, Cliftonville, La Valetta, Barry Town,
St. Patrick Dublin, B 36 Thorshavn, Vllaznia Shkoder, Jeunesse d'Esch, Kapaz Ganja.
Champions of Andorra and Bosnia moved to the UEFA Cup. Liechtenstein doesn't have
domestic championship.
In the preliminary round teams from the 3rd pot are seeded and teams
from the 4th pot are unseeded. In the qualifying round teams from
2nd pot are seeded and the preliminary round winners unseeded.
Winners of the qualifying round qualify together with the teams from
the 1st pot for the Champions' League.
Seeding for the Cup Winners' Cup
Teams are divided into 3 pots
(UEFA Ranking (1993/94-1997/98)):
- First (freed, 1-14 and the defender): Chelsea London, Lazio Roma,
MSV Duisburg, Mallorca, Paris Saint-Germain, Heerenveen, Newcastle United,
Braga, Panionios, Jablonec, Valerenga IF, SV Ried, Lokomotiv Moskva,
Varteks Varazdin, Besiktas.
- Second (seeded, 15-31): Kobenhavn, Lausanne Sports, CSCA Kyiv, Amica
Wronki, MTK Budapest, Genk, Spartak Trnava, Rapid Bucuresti, Helsingborg,
Dinamo Batumi, Apollon Limassol, Heart of Midlothian, Maccabi Haifa, Rudar
Velenje, Lokomotiv-96 Vitebsk, IBK Keflavik, Haka Valkeakoski.
- Third (unseeded, 32-48): Liepaja Metalurgs, Levski Sofia, Vardar Skopje,
Ekranas, Partizan Beograd, Constructorul, Vaduz, Lantana Tallinn, Tsement Ararat,
Glentoran Belfast, Hibernians Paola, Bangor City, Cork City, GI Gotu, Apolonia
Fier, CS Grevenmacher, Garabag Agdam.
Andorra and Bosnia are not allowed.
In the first round 15 teams freed from the preliminary round are
seeded together with the best winner of the preliminary round.
In the second round 8 best remaining teams are seeded and the rest
unseeded.
Seeding for the UEFA Cup
Number of teams is determined by
UEFA Ranking (1992/93-1996/97).
Teams ranked 1-3 have 4 teams, 4-8 have 3 teams, 9-21 have 2 teams,
rest have 1 team without Liechtenstein, three best countries in Fair Play
competition (England, Finland, Norway) have one extra team.
Andorra is represented by their champion. Bosnia has two representatives
because their champion isn't allowed to Champions' League qualifications.
That gives 85 teams (82 - 1 /Liechtenstein/ + 1 /Bosnia/ + 3 /FP/).

- Second (20 teams): AEK, PAOK, Slavia Praha, Sigma Olomouc, SK Brann,
Stromsgodset IF, Molde FK, Rapid Wien, Grazer AK, Rotor Volgograd, Dinamo Moskva,
Hajduk Split, Osijek, Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor, Istanbulspor, Silkeborg, Vejle BK,
Servette Geneve, FC Zurich.
- Third (20 teams): Shachtar Donetsk, Polonia Warszawa, Wisla Krakow, Ferencvaros,
Germinal Ekeren, Anderlecht Bruxelles, Inter Bratislava, Arges Pitesti, Otelul
Galati, IFK Göteborg, Malmö FF, Kolkheti-1913 Poti, Omonia Nicosia, Glasgow Rangers,
Kilmarnock, Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Mura Murska Sobota, Belshina Bobruysk, IA Akranes,
Vaasan PS.
- Fourth (20 teams): FinnPa Helsinki, Daugava Riga, CSKA Sofia, Sloga Skopje,

Belfast, Birkirkara, Newtown, Shelbourne, HB Thorshavn, FK Tirane, Union Luxembourg,
Dinamo Baku, Club Esportiu Principat, Zeljeznicar Sarajevo, FK Sarajevo.
In the preliminary round teams from the 3rd pot are seeded and teams
from the 4th pot are unseeded. In the qualifying round teams from
2nd pot are seeded and the winners of the preliminary round unseeded.
That gives 64 teams (20 from the qualifying round, 25 teams from the 1st pot,
freed from the preliminaries, 3 teams from UEFA-Intertoto Cup, 16 losers from
Champions' League preliminary round).
In the first and second round top 16 teams from the club ranking are seeded.
For that ranking each club receive sum of averages from 5 previous seasons.
Averages are ratios of: points achieved by number of matches.
Preliminary rounds are not in charge for that ranking.
